Description
This is a somewhat odd shaped piece of Sacred Catlinite that would be suitable to make several really nice pipes out of. It is 9-3/4″ at its longest point and it 5-1/4″ tall.
This piece is a pretty uniform 1-1/4″ thick through all of it.
I’ve wet down the one part of it that has been cut into, so that you can see the natural color of this beatiful dark red piece.
This stone was quarried by hand at the Pipestone National Monument.
It is the premier carving stone. It’s soft enough to easily work, but it’s hard enough that it will hold great detail.
This type of stone doesn’t often come up for sale, because people who quarry are also pipemakers. Pipemakers generally save the best pipe material to use themselves.
