This is a personal tomahawk pipe made out of Black Pipestone or Steatite.
Black Pipestone is a material that holds up exceptionally well to heat, so it is ideal for use in making pipes.
The stone pipe bowl measures app 2″ long and it is 3-1/4″ tall.
The etchings on the pipe all have meaning.
The eagle feather staff or Native American Flag is depicted on each side of the pipe. This is what you would see during the grand entry of a powwow.
The feathers on the one side of the pipe are called friendship feathers and represent any two people who are extremely close to each other. This could be husband and wife, 2 brothers, a father or son, 2 best friends, or any relationship where 2 people have a special bond.
The trees on the other pipe can signify a couple of different things. The first story I heard is that it represents a family that continues to grow and get bigger as the years go by. It can also represent a persons life, as he/she grows from a child through adulthood.
All pipes come standard with a beaded California Redwood Stem unless otherwise noted.
