Description
This is a super nice piece of Sacred Catlinite that would be suitable to make a large effigy pipe out of, or a few smaller personal pipes.
I’ve wet down the one edge of it so you can see the nice red color that you’ll find in this piece of stone. If you look closely, you’ll notice that this piece has a lot of nice stars/spots in it. This type of stone is very sought after.
This piece is app 5-1/2″ at the longest point, and 5-1/4″ at the tallest point. The majority of the piece is 1-1/2″ thick. On one corner of it it gets down to 1-1/4″ thick. This stone was quarried by hand at the Pipestone National Monument.
It is the premier carving stone… It’s soft enough to easily work, but it’s hard enough that it will hold great detail.
This type of stone doesn’t often come up for sale, because people who quarry are also pipemakers and they generally save the pipe material to use themselves.
