Description
This is a very nice and a really large piece of Sacred Catlinite that would be suitable to make a huge effigy pipe out of, several ceremonial T Pipes or Elbow Pipes, and you would even have some left over to make a few smaller personal pipes.
This piece is app 9″ long and 4-1/2″ tall. It is about as thick as you can find sacred catlinite on the left side and comes in at 2-1/2″ thick. It tapers down gradually to about 1-1/2″ thick on the left side. As you can see on the 2nd picture there’s going to be about 3/8″ on the bottom side that is a lighter color.
This stone was quarried by hand at the Pipestone National Monument.
It is the premier carving stone. It’s soft enough to easily work, but it’s hard enough that it will hold great detail.
This type of stone doesn’t often come up for sale, because people who quarry are also pipemakers and they generally save the pipe material to use themselves.
